American Sign Language Studies (BA)
The B.A. in American Sign Language allows students to pursue one of two tracks: American Sign Language Literature and Deaf Cultural Studies or Interpreting American Sign Language and English. ASLN 1101 Elementary American Sign Language I-ASLN 1104 Intermediate American Sign Language II are prerequisites and the credits do not count towards the major.

Learning Objectives
- Communicate using ASL at a level of proficiency that aligns with the goals and objectives of each level of ASL, culminating in skills equivalent to the Advanced Mid Level of speaking (expressive ASL) and listening (receptive ASL) as established by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language (ACTFL proficiency scale).
- Integrate their knowledge and understanding of the history, culture, values, diversity and the experiences of members within the Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind communities.
- Interpret between ASL and English at a novel level of interpreting.
