Maritime Archaeology Minor
Maritime Archaeology is an interdisciplinary field of study, global in scope, focusing on the investigations of human interactions with the seas, lakes, and rivers through the excavation and documentation of submerged settlements and coastal facilities, wrecked vessels, lost cargoes, and human remains. The program integrates technology, such as side-scan sonar and undersea robotic vehicles, and science with traditional archaeological and historical studies. The minor introduces students to the development and application of current and future methods of exploration, research, and management of maritime heritage sites and resources. Students interested in pursuing this minor are advised to complete appropriate 1000-level courses in a number of fields as preparation for advanced courses in their program in Maritime Archaeology.
