Financial Technology (BS)
The objective of this major is to train students in financial technology. Graduates will be strong in the traditional functional areas of business (accounting, marketing, finance, and management) and will have a solid understanding of the integration of technology and its application in financial services and related industries. This major is only open to students at the Stamford regional campus.
Bachelor of Science Requirements
Financial Technology majors are required to achieve a cumulative 2.0 grade point average for the total of all Finance (FNCE) and Operations and Information Management (OPIM) courses for which they have been registered at the University of Connecticut, excluding grades and credits for independent studies and internships.
Residence Requirement
In addition to the School of Business residence requirements for all majors, a Financial Technology major must complete FNCE 3240 Foundations of FinTech, FNCE 3303 Principles of Investments and Derivatives, FNCE 4230 FinTech Economics and Business Models; OPIM 3510 Business Data Analytics I, OPIM 3511 Business Data Analytics II, OPIM 3806 Introduction to Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Technology; and two additional Financial Technology courses in residence at the University of Connecticut. Education Abroad courses may not be used to meet this requirement.

For students admitted to Accelerated M.S. Financial Technology
FNCE 5710 Introductions to Financial Models may be used in place of FNCE 3303 Principles of Investments and Derivatives, and/or FNCE 5711 Foundations of FinTech may be used in place of FNCE 3240 Foundations of FinTech, but in either case credit is not given for both to satisfy the major requirements.
For students admitted to Accelerated M.S. in Business Analytics and Project Management
OPIM 5604 Predictive Modeling may be used in place of OPIM 3511 Business Data Analytics II, and/or OPIM 5270 Introduction to Project Management may be used in place of OPIM 3512 Project Management for Business Data Analytics, but in either case, credit is not given for both to satisfy the major requirements.
