4059. Follow the Money: Impact of Payment Reform and Health Policy on Pharmacy Practice

Introductory course on the impact of health care delivery and payment reform on new practice opportunities for pharmacists. Topics include patient-centered medical homes, accountable care organizations, community health teams, population health, medication therapy management, value-based insurance design, and new reimbursement models to support pharmacists in direct patient care roles. A holistic view of these topics is examined from the consumer/patient, health care professional, payor, and health-system perspectives. Instructional formats include class discussions, online assignments, assigned readings, and guest lecturers who present "real-world" perspectives. Final grade is assigned based on student participation, assignments, class presentations, and a final project/poster presentation. No prerequisites are required.
